Rick Massley: Home
When is the last time you bought a new album, put it on, and proceeded to fall in love with every single song? That long, huh! Well here's a musical gem that delivers such satisfaction song after song.
"One Lifetime," the debut CD by Verdict Records artist Rick Massley, is a musical journey of life's twists and turns with lyrics full of rich honesty, melodies and vocal performances that enable the lyrics to reach your soul. These songs tell stories of life that anyone can relate to, and offers a production that supports all these elements and wraps everything up in a musical presentation that takes you where you want to go.
"One Lifetime," the album's title track, gives you a solid rhythmic blues foundation in the drums, bass, and guitar orchestration. The track begins with a rhythmic bluesy instrumental spaciousness that allows Massley's lyrics and melody to begin to tell the story of how you've got one go round on this earth to make things happen. Extra guitar and piano textures are added as the track moves along. Every instrumental part has it's place expertly reaching a satisfying fullness without overpowering Massley's vocal performance.
"Turn" has an almost retro/funk feel reminiscent of the days of James Brown with drums, bass, and guitar hits that are sure to make you pull over to the side of the road and groove so you won't have a wreck. The album's first single offering,
"I'll Do That With You Again," with remixes prepared by famed remix producer Ricky Ricardo, is a slinky seductive mix of urban, rock, and blues. The song's lyrics are full of clever seduction that still leaves the listener with the opportunity to fill in the blanks with their own scenario.
"One Lifetime" tells a story and draws you in with great lyrical and melodic hooks and strong instrumental sub hooks particularly in the bass lines of track 2, "Turn," track 4, "The Sweet By and By," track 9, "Time To Move On," track 12, "I'll Do That With You Again," and > track 13, "Predator To Prey."
The album "One Lifetime" by Verdict Records artist Rick Massley, produced by Rod Clemmons, is a not to be missed debut offering.
